Alistair Theirin
Born to Fiona of the Grey Wardens, Alistair was delivered to Maric Theirin as a baby. For safekeeping, Maric gave the infant to Arl Eamon Guerrin, the first of many mistakes made in the young man's upbringing.Eamon kept Alistair alive, but did not offer him the love and support the boy needed. Arl Eamon made the child sleep in the stables, and while rumors swirled about him being Eamon's bastard, Eamon did nothing to assure his young wife Isolde that this was not the case. He watched as Isolde treated Alistair cruelly. And finally, at Isolde's behest, Eamon sent the boy away to the Chantry.Alistair did his studies and training at an abbey where he learned history, fighting, Templar abilities, and hating the choices that were constantly made for him.At the age of 20, Duncan recruited the boy into the Grey Wardens at the protests of the Grand Cleric. He joined the Wardens at Ostagar as they battled darkspawn at the south edge of Ferelden. Duncan kept Alistair safe, out of most of the battles. Loghain Mac Tir, knowing the boy's parentage, believed that the Grey Wardens were using him in a plot to usurp Ferelden and deliver the country back to the Orlesians. At just 21, the Battle of Ostagar happens, and Alistair loses Duncan. Duncan, the only person who has ever cared for what Alistair wanted, who has ever treated him as his own person and not a pawn. Plunged into the chaos of the Fifth Blight, branded a traitor, Alistair has only his fellow Grey Warden to cling to.
